About Kate
Kate ran her successful behaviour and force-free training business Contemplating Canines in Devon, however she now focuses much time and effort on canine enrichment through PickPocket Foragers.
Kate holds an advanced diploma in Canine Behaviour Management (with distinction) from Compass Education Ltd and a Teacher’s Diploma and Certificate in Puppy Education from Learning About Dogs Ltd. Kate is a founder member of an international behaviour organisation and a member of the Pet Professional Guild. She is author of Home Alone & Happy, a book about preventing separation anxiety, and was a regular contributor to magazines including Animal Therapy Magazine. She also contributed to Jan Allegretti’s Complete Holistic Dog book and has worked in television as an assistant trainer for clicker training pets.
Kate’s special interests lie in errorless learning, problem prevention and canine enrichment, concepts she incorporates into her behaviour consultations. With a passion for nutrition and holism, she takes referrals from homeopathic vet practices and sees first-hand the powerful synergy of a mind-body-soul approach to wellness. Kate also volunteers to train assistance dogs.
Seeing the many benefits of canine enrichment in her behaviour practice, in 2017 Kate founded PickPocket Foragers supplying washable fleece toys for dogs to give mental stimulation and gentle exercise through nose work.
Along with her husband Paul, Kate is currently guardian to Golden Retrievers Phoebe and Maisie, and English Springer Spaniel Rosie. In her spare time she enjoys long walks with the dogs and escaping to the beach as often as possible.
