Kate runs her successful behaviour and training business Contemplating Canines in Devon, although she now focuses much time and effort on canine enrichment through PickPocket Foragers.
Kate holds an advanced diploma in Canine Behaviour Management (with distinction) from Compass Education Ltd and a Teacher’s Diploma and Certificate in Puppy Education from Learning About Dogs Ltd. Kate is a founder member of an international behaviour organisation, a member of the Pet Professional Guild and runs Contemplating Canines, her force-free behavior and training business, in East Devon, UK. She is author of Home Alone & Happy, a book about preventing separation anxiety, and is a regular contributor to magazines including Animal Therapy Magazine. She contributed to Jan Allegretti’s Complete Holistic Dog book and has worked in television as an assistant trainer for clicker training pets.
Kate’s special interests lie in errorless learning, problem prevention and canine enrichment, concepts she incorporates into her behaviour consultations. With a passion for nutrition and holism, she frequently takes referrals from a homeopathic vet practice and sees first-hand the powerful synergy of a mind-body-soul approach to wellness.
Seeing the many benefits of canine enrichment in her behaviour practice, in 2017 Kate founded PickPocket Foragers supplying washable fleece toys for dogs to give mental stimulation and gentle exercise through nose work.
Along with her husband Paul, Kate is currently guardian to mother and daughter Golden Retrievers Mabel and Phoebe, and working Goldie Maisie. She enjoys long walks with the dogs and escaping to the beach as often as possible.
