Scout

Scout

Scout is a blind lurcher owned by veterinary nurse and author Tracey Ison. He was found wandering the streets of County Durham when he was around five months old. Scout has the double-merle gene, which causes hereditary problems (merles should NEVER be mated with merles). Scout is blind in one eye and has a cataract in his ‘good’ eye that unfortunately can’t be removed, and he will eventually go completely blind. Currently he has limited vision and can probably see light and shade. Tracey explains that Scout’s eye problems are complex and she has to limit some activities, for instance he cannot chew for extended periods of time as this causes pressure to build up in his eye. For this reason Tracey is an advocate for PickPockets: “This is why I really appreciate the benefits of forage enrichment as it is safe for him – and I love the fact that you can hear him snuffling!”.

Tracey is author of a book about Scout – For the love of Scout
